Frequently Asked Questions – Hotels, Wedding, and Pittsburgh

Hello friends and family! (And random internet readers!)   We’ve come up with a wedding FAQ that we will continually update before the party, so be sure to check this post often for even more information!

Where should we stay in Los Angeles? Is there a group booking?

The best and most economical way to book a room is via Expedia or Travelocity.  We discovered most hotels charged a premium for groups and much better rates could be secured online.  (Often $50-$60 less than a group discount.)

Below is a carefully crafted and researched list of venerable hospitality institutions that are within short distance from the wedding location.

And lastly (but not leastly), we found out the Farmer’s Daughter Hotel down by the Farmer’s Market does offer a decent group rate, but it is only available if you book online by October 20.  If you would like more information about the rate or need the code to book, please let us know.

Please let us know where you are staying while in Los Angeles visiting us!

Where should we stay in Pittsburgh if we attending the East Coast affair?

And for those of you who will be attending the party in Pittsburgh, Sarah’s mother has secured a group rate under the name “Kilgore” at the Crowne Plaza South (412) 833-5300.

Should we fly into LAX or the Burbank Airport? Is the Long Beach airport far away? What about the Ontario or John Wayne Airports?

Hollywood is central to both LAX and the Burbank/Bob Hope Airport, so you cannot go wrong with flights into either one.  (Even Jet Blue now flies into Burbank!) The Long Beach airport is a bit further away, so a car rental would be advised if flying into that airport.  Both the Ontario and John Wayne Airports are far from central Los Angeles.

Should we rent a car or take a taxi while in Los Angeles or Pittsburgh?

In Los Angeles, renting a car is advisable if you are not staying near Hollywood or if you want to avoid high taxi rates for the long drive from LAX.  (It’s also good if you want to head to beach during your trip!)

Another option is the SuperShuttle, which is a shared van service that runs between all Los Angeles and the airports.  Generally it is about $16-$20 from LAX to Hollywood per person.

If you are an adventurous traveller who is used to jumping from shuttles to subways around the world, you can also take the LAX FlyAway service to Union Station and then take the Red Line to Hollywood.  (The Green Line does not directly connect to LAX and requires a shuttle ride, so the FlyAway is a much better option.)

In Pittsburgh, a car would be recommended, but with so many people about, it shouldn’t be too difficult to ask someone for a ride.  Just let us know!

Will Missy be in the wedding?

Unfortunately no, as Missy would probably not make a good wedding guest.  Plus, as the bride, I refuse to let anything this cute into the wedding.

Really, I cannot compete with her.

So will Miss Piggy and Kermit be at the wedding?

No.  See above.

Are you guys leaving for your honeymoon right after the wedding?

No, but we will be taking a pre-honeymoon escape to Las Vegas for a few days after the wedding.

Did you know your wedding date is the same date as John F. Kennedy’s assassination?

Not until we gave a wedding invitation to one of our neighbors.  That guy is full of information! Let’s think in a more pleasant light, as it is also the birthdaysof Obrecht, Terry Gilliam, Rodney Dangerfield, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Did you make your own invitations?

Yep! We used a Japanese print system called Gocco, which is very popular.

Are you ever going to write your engagement story? How did it happen?

As soon as we are done planning the wedding, we will post our “story”.

Did we miss anything? Do you need more information? Please call, email, or post here if you have any questions!

We cannot wait to see everyone!

  1. Do you have a gift registry anywhere?

  2. Yes. We are registered at Crate & Barrel and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

But don’t feel like you have to go by just those lists!

  3. JoAnn and Dad appreciate all of the research you guys have done but, you know what, that Best Western Hollywood Hills Hotel is such a charming place (we have stayed there before), we just decided. We have booked for arrival on Thursday Nov 20 and departure Monday Nov 24, 79.20 per night (AARP for old people). This is the room with the delux bathroom and this is definitely what we recommend. You just cannot believe the tiled shower (who needs a microwave). And you never know who you might meet at the 101 Cafe. We are really looking forward to this celebration!

  4. Hey Sarah,

My dude and I broke up yesterday, so I’m only RSVPing for one now. Sorry if this is too late to make a difference!

    Susan
